– If anyone has equipment issues, please let us know and we can do our best to assist and get you back on the water as soon as possible.  While we do have some parts and pieces, anglers will be expected to repair their own equipment. There are dealerships surrounding the area that may also have parts and pieces or even kayaks to help you stay on the water. The Hobie Parts trailer will arrive Thursday evening.

Thank you all for your support, we couldn’t do this without you.  The results of this event can change the direction of an anglers season and opportunities. Practice Period E-Mail:

Welcome anglers to the official practice period of the Hobie BOS Anchored by Power-Pole; New River event sponsored by Torqeedo! We are so excited to present our first Open visit to the New River and state of West Virginia and coming in in a big way with 100 Anglers!  This is our 8th event in a row with 100 or more anglers and we couldn’t do it without your support.  No matter if it’s your first event or you are a regular, we appreciate you and wouldn’t be here without you.

Please make sure you have the most updated version of TourneyX.  Please make sure you are shown as active in this tournament on your TourneyX app.

Practice period details:

All times are EST.

July 22nd Anglers are allowed to begin fishing the tournament waters.

July 27th Anglers will receive their Need to Know email to go over details of Friday’s mandatory registration and meeting.

July 28th @ 4pm- Practice is officially over and all anglers must be OFF the water. Plan accordingly if you are on a float.

During Practice anglers must follow all practice rules, including the following:

–        Must be in a tournament legal vessel, but are allowed to utilize a motor during this period as long as craft is legally registered for motor usage. We love Torqeedo here at the BOS.

–        Must have a valid Fishing License for the waters/ state you are fishing in. It is the angler’s responsibility to be aware of how this fishery operates with state lines.  Where you launch and where you fish is reflective on what license you need to be legal.

–        Cannot solicit, utilize, pay for or receive information that comes directly or indirectly from a guide that has been active on the river in the last 14 days. If information is public it is available to all.

–        Anglers are allowed to gather information from tackle shops, fellow anglers, and dock talk, etc.

–        Anglers are allowed to share information with fellow anglers.

Launches and boundaries-

Anglers are allowed to launch outside of these published ramps for Practice Only.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1IhRiVhV5vyXGWjQh7PeWZncKVp1ShQ0&usp=sharing

Anglers need to utilize this link for the Official published ramps list. This link is live and may have changes throughout the week.  Please check this link often and communicate any issues and inaccuracies to BOS staff.   If you are attempting to utilize a ramp and it is closed, not public, hazardous, etc.  Please contact BOS staff immediately @ BOS@Hobie.com.  Please include the ramp name, pin drop, details of the situation, and your concerns.  We will address as quickly as we can.

Not all ramps are free and not all ramps have hours that coincide with event hours. This is the angler’s responsibility to know and follow even on tournament days.

Due to changing conditions, launches on this list are subject to change through the end of the tournament and any changes will be published/ announced.  There will be no launch additions after Thursday night.

Lodging

We hope all of our anglers have already secured lodging, but if you haven’t, we encourage you to stay in West Virginia.  We are hosting all events out of Beckley, we have dealer support in Beckley and its an easy access to many areas there.  The state of West Virginia is who brought us to the River, any support our anglers can give back to these towns, is greatly appreciated and why we are here.

Hobie Parts/ Needs-

We encourage anglers to check, maintain and prepare their equipment prior to arriving.  There are many dealers around and, on the way, depending on direction you are coming from.

We do have Andrew and his team at Elevation Outdoors that can help you with any Hobie or about any other brand kayak issue.  They also have a full selection of Hobie Eyewear; Check out the floating frames!  Please stop by and see them and tell them you are here for the BOS.

Our Hobie Supplies will arrive later on Thursday.  Hobie staff will no longer be able to offer any repairs tournament week, only supplies to help get you back on the water. Hobie has a great support page with directions and video instructions of almost all repairs.  We encourage checking and fixing gear prior to arriving at the event.

Payments:

15% of the field will get paid this year. We will announce the pay table once the field is set completely in our Need to Know email you’ll receive next week.

Media:

We highly encourage sharing your travel and fishing experiences this week.  Please share on your personal page! You can also submit to the BOS page for approval, and/or send pictures directly to our staff at BOS@Hobie.com.  Please include any or all of the following hashtags in your post! #HobieBOS #Hobiefishing #HobieBassOpenSeries #NewRiver #VisitWV #Wildandwonderful

–        If you use any products from our great sponsors, please share and tag them as well:

#Hobie #PowerPole #Lowrance #Aftco #Torqeedo #BerleyPro #FPVPower #MarineMat #Engel #StCroix #Hobieeyewear  #Yakgear #THMarine

Water Conditions and Weather- As with any event on any water way, we will always monitor the conditions and make sure we are putting our anglers out to safe and manageable conditions for next weekend.  We will not dictate or control what anglers do during the practice period.  If you find the water is too high or swift in an area, we encourage you to find and explore different areas until the water levels are comfortable for you.  This river system will change throughout every day, please look at gauges and pay attention to the flow and level, it’s very important.

Please be aware of weather coming through the area, being on the river surrounded by mountains can blind you from storms that are coming. Be aware and prepared.

Safety- You may be fishing this event alone, but you need to make sure you have a safety contact.  Someone that knows where you launch, where you take out, and when you are safely off the water.  Service can be limited in some areas.  Single access opportunities may be beneficial to you while at this fishery. Safety First.

TourneyX- TourneyX got updates this week for iPhone and Android.  Please delete your current App and download the updated version.   Having the updated version should allow you to get the best usage out of that app for this week.

Final Notes-

Metal Ketch boards are mandatory for this event.  We will only have a couple available at the meeting, it is the angler’s sole responsibility to have all the required equipment for this event.

All information is published at the TourneyX event page and the www.hobiebos.com event page. As things update, those will be too.

The refund period is over, if for whatever reason you can’t come, please communicate with the event staff so they are aware.

The TD is AJ McWhorter and can be reached if needed at 859-351-3617 or BOS@Hobie.com.  He will not be on-site until Thursday.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Mandatory Check-in on Friday night!  Safe Travels, be safe, and have fun this week!

Thanks,
Hobie Cat Company II LLC,
Tournament Director
